Features for Business Owners
With either card, there’s no limit to the amount of earnings you can build up or redeem toward an eligible, new GM vehicle. Earnings don’t expire as long as your account stays open and in good standing. And you can combine earnings with other current vehicle offers.
The also offers free employee cards and you can enroll your Mastercard business card in the Mastercard Easy Savings Program®† allows you to save on everyday expenses when you use your card on qualified purchases at participating merchants nationwide. You can find details on these savings here.
When you’re ready to redeem your rewards, you visit a participating GM dealership, pick a new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle and negotiate your price. Then you deduct earnings from that agreed upon price.
Understanding Business-centric Fee Structures
In addition to the rewards points program, two cost-saving features of this card are:
The fee structure. With no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee, this card is very competitive cost wise.
The intro APR. Cardholders who want to finance purchases over time can take advantage of 0% Intro APR on purchases for the first 12 months, variable of 19.24% to 29.24% APR after. This is a very competitive introductory APR card offer, and can be valuable for cardholders who want a low-cost option to finance purchases for the short term without getting a small business loan.
Again, free employee cards can help your business accumulate reward on all eligible card purchases, and accelerate both rewards and status.
Applying as a Business
When you apply for this card, you will agree to a personal credit check. The credit card issuer doesn’t reveal a minimum credit score required for credit approval, but it is likely you will need good to excellent credit to qualify.
After filling out personal information, including name, address, Social Security number and total income, you’ll answer questions about your business including business name and address, business structure (sole proprietorship, LLC or corporation, for example), ownership percentage, EIN, business revenue, number of employees, time in business, and industry.
You must agree to a business credit check as well. Again, a minimum business credit score requirement is not stated. (Here’s how to establish business credit.)
You must attest that you are a control person (an individual with significant responsibility to control, manage or direct a legal entity customer).
Maximizing Rewards for Your Business
If you plan to get a GM vehicle and can take advantage of the welcome offer, this is a competitive offer.
Compared to other business card offers, the earnings rate for purchases in popular spending categories is competitive. Reminder: Get 5% in Earnings on purchases of eligible GM parts, accessories and service at authorized GM dealers, 3% in Earnings on purchases at gas stations, restaurants, and office supply stores, and 1% on all other purchases.
Find the best business cash back rewards card here.
However, you could consider a cash back rewards credit card with a higher cash back rewards rate for purchases that don’t fall into the bonus categories, such as travel. Of course, if you are trying to meet the spending requirement for the intro purchase bonus, you’ll want to do that first.
Conclusion
My GM Rewards members who want to increase the rewards they earn may want to consider a GM card. The GM Business Card offers solid rewards for loyalty program members.
Business owners who prefer more flexible rewards programs may want to consider a cash back business rewards card to earn cash they can use toward any type of purchase, or just reinvest in the business.
